Making decisions is essential to success. Whether it’s a good decision or a bad decision, it is better than NO decision. No decision leaves you in the status quo; there is no chance for change and no room for improvement.

When we find ourselves having difficulty making decisions whether it is planning dinner, where to shop or your next career move, it’s often because we were never really taught how to make a decision.

Often times as children our parents decided for us, we did what we thought we SHOULD do or we learned to constantly ask for advice before making a move to decide for what we want.

Somewhere along the line our decision making got inhibited with the task of pleasing others, doing what’s “right” (according to what we were taught to be true) or seeking approval.

1. The number one rule in making decisions is to trust YOU.

Know you are making the right decision if it feels right to you and has some good in it for others. If we are making decisions on what others think, what others tell us to do or what we should do, we are not authentic in our decisions. We are not living our own life.

We tell our self so often “I don’t know what to do”. This is not true at all. We have an internal map for guidance called our intuition. It is there all of the time but we must learn to tap into it. If you quiet your mind long enough and ask the right questions you will receive the answers. You already know what to do it is just not yet in your conscious awareness.

2. We must decide for and commit to what we say we want.

When we decide for something we set an intention. That intention needs the power of commitment behind it. Once we commit, actually say yes this is what I want; we become a magnet to resources we didn’t know existed.

To achieve our goal/dream we have to resonate at the same vibration frequency. This puts us in alignment with what we want. To do this we have to believe it has already happened and live as though it is our experience right now. We ask our self, if I were living the life I love, what would I be doing, how would I dress, how would I feel, who would I hang out with. We do this through the use of our imagination.

We visualize our dream with specific and clear detail imagining the life we want. Our subconscious mind doesn’t know the difference between what is real and what is not, it simply believes whatever we feed it through our thoughts, emotions, and imagination. The more we visualize the results of what we want, stemming from decisions we are willing to make, the new images over time become our reality.

As long as we stay in the old mindset that what we want is impossible, that then becomes the limit of our possibilities. We live in an abundant Universe that is infinite in scope and has unlimited ideas for any size dream we have.

If you have a thought that is limiting your dream, you are actually constricting the flow of solutions and possibilities. You must be willing to connect to that part of you that is open to possibilities in order to attract the ideas that will bring the fulfillment of your dream.

3. Decision making is sometimes scary.

If you are not used to making decisions for yourself it is scary. The moment you think you want to create something new, fear rises up to tell you, you can’t. Within 5 seconds off deciding you want something different your subconscious minds kicks in telling you, you don’t have what it takes. You don’t know how to do it and immediately you feel uncertain, scared, doubtful and fearful of failure.

We get complacent. If we do the same things long enough, whether it is good for us or not, it becomes our normal state of being. We don’t even realize what has happened because the increments are so gradual we don’t see it coming. All of a sudden we find our self stuck in the same patterns, making the same decisions, or worse still, not deciding at all because if we don’t decide we don’t risk failure.

When you find yourself longing for something more for your life or discontent with your current circumstances, know it is time to make a decision to change your life.

We can’t decide for what we want until we know what we want. You have to have a goal or dream in mind. So you start by asking what it is you want for your life.

Once you have a crystal clear vision of what you want the next step is to decide for it. That means making a commitment for what you want often times without knowing all the answers for how you will bring it about. This raises the very one thing that often holds people back from achieving their dream; FEAR.

Fear is the number one thing that stops people from making a decision for what they want. Fear shows up when we do something that moves us toward change; a career change, ending or starting a relationship, a new business, or even smoking cessation or losing weight. Fear is a given when something requires us to change our attitudes, behaviors, beliefs and step into the unknown.

Know that nothing in your life can change unless you are willing to face your fears. We must be willing to accept that fear is a part of growing. It is part of living a freer, fuller more expanded life.

Fear is not going anywhere so the alternative is to acknowledge it but don’t let it rule your life. Kick it out of the driver’s seat and put it behind you, standing up to it by taking action for what you want.

The biggest fear is the fear of failure. The key here is to look at failure not as a mistake or something bad, but as feedback and information for how to do it better. Very often it is the falling down and rising up that is the key to achieving great success.

When we start out we can’t always see a clear path for how to get to our dream, but that doesn’t mean a path doesn’t exist. It simply means we are not yet aware enough to see all that we can do to bring that dream into reality.

Once you decide for what you want, a whole stream of events will issue from that decision; unforeseen incidents, meeting and material assistance will rise in your favor that you would have never expected to happen.

So when fear arises from the decisions you make, and it will; here’s one thing you can do.

Where your attention goes energy flows. Whenever you notice your thoughts moving toward negativity or limitation, interrupt the thought and focus you attention on your goal/dream; on what you want. Then take an action step, no matter how small, in the direction of your dream. When you do that, it sends a strong message to your subconscious mind that you are really serious about creating new results; this is what you really would love to have in your life.

There is one basic truth if you are to achieve your dream. You must decide for your dream, you must commit to what it is you say you want and you must take action in the face of fear.
